A few well-chosen exterior mods change how your Tesla reads on the road far more than the badge ever will. Spoilers, splitters, mirror caps, wheel treatments, and protection film each pull a different lever, from subtle factory-plus refinement to a full Plaid-inspired stance. Here is how to choose without overspending or regretting an adhesive you can't undo.

Carbon Fiber vs ABS

This is the first real decision. Genuine carbon fiber is light, stiff, and has a depth to the weave that plastic can't fake, but it costs more and can fade without a UV clear coat. ABS plastic (often "carbon-look" hydro-dipped) is cheaper, more impact-tolerant, and easier to replace if a parking lot does it dirty. For a carbon fiber rear spoiler or carbon fiber side mirror covers, real carbon is worth it on a focal point. For trim you rarely study up close, ABS saves money no one will notice.

Adhesive vs Snap-On Install

How a part attaches decides how nervous you should be:

• Snap-on / clip-fit — mirror caps and most Plaid-inspired wheel covers clip over existing trim. Fully reversible, DIY in minutes.
• Clamp-on — brake caliper covers bracket onto the caliper; no paint, no glue, but torque them correctly.
• Adhesive (3M tape) — spoilers and splitters bond to paint. Clean execution looks factory; removal can lift clear coat and leave residue. • Drilled/bolted — rare on Teslas and the least reversible. Avoid unless you're committed.

Paint, Protection & Fitment

If your part is painted to match (a spoiler in body color rather than carbon), insist on the Tesla paint code and accept that aftermarket panels can shade slightly off; carbon and gloss-black sidestep matching entirely.
